Whether you’re a business leader, mental health clinician, attorney, sales person, teacher, parent, or any other title in between, effective communication hinges on more than just strategy, decision-making, and saying the “right” words; it requires a nuanced understanding of human emotions and human behavior.

According to Professor David Matsumoto from San Francisco State University, emotions are momentary bio-psycho-social reactions to events that are important to our welfare.  Put another way, e-motions are energy that drive motion - they drive behavior.  Similar to feelings, which can be understood as cognitively saturat

Type-flexing at Work: Extraversion vs. Introversion

Ryan West / November 8, 2023

You’ve read the article, “Determining Another’s Myers-Briggs Type: Extraversion vs. Introversion”, and have practiced Type-watching every day for the past week.  You’re very confident that your colleague is an extravert and you’re an introvert.  You want to communicate more effectively with them, but aren’t sure how to do that.  Welcome to the applied concept of “Type-flexing”.  Type-flexing is the purposeful and temporary alignment of your communication style with another’s.

Type-flexing is similar to “mirroring”, a term you’ll often hear in social psychology and sales, but can be more accurate and authentic.  When Type-flexing, you don’t just mirror another’s

Real Stories, Real Results: What Our Clients Have to Say

“I’ve had the pleasure of sitting through multiple EQualifyed trainings over the years: Myers-Briggs, non-verbal communication training, and microexpression training. I’m always amazed at Ryan’s competence and ability to make challenging topics unbelievably digestible. With each training, our team not only walks away entertained, they are excited to immediately practice what they learned at the office, and also at home. I cannot recommend Ryan highly enough! The one warning I would issue is that if you have him present once, be prepared to have your staff begging to have him back to train again each year.”

—Dustin W., Managing Partner | Financial Services Industry

“Our collaboration with EQualifyed has resulted in measurable improvement in emotional intelligence, communication, and leadership skills. We have worked with Ryan on multiple occasions and he delivers EVERY TIME! His depth of knowledge and dynamic delivery style engage even the most skeptical attendee. Content is custom-tailored to meet our organization’s needs and focuses on applicable takeaways that our team members immediately put into effective and ongoing practice. The most frequent comment on our post-workshop surveys is, “When is he coming back??”

—Darby F., Director of Learning & Development | Federal Credit Union

“As the CEO of major US corporations, I have worked with many companies. EQualifyed is far and away the best. They don’t just sell me a program – they work with me to determine EXACTLY what I need and what I want to accomplish. They are more like a partner than a vendor. I highly recommend them.”

“I recently had the opportunity to participate in Ryan West training with EQualifyed. Wow, what an eye-opener. Within a few short hours of training, Ryan helped me read others’ facial expressions and body language like I never thought possible. I am in a client-facing career and I have found the training has helped me pay attention to the subtle expressions clients often express during our engagements. This allows me to tailor my client interactions to ensure I am meeting the clients’ true needs. I would highly recommend EQualifyed’s nonverbal communication training to anyone, especially if they work face-to-face with clients.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Emotional Intelligence (EQ), and why is it important?

Emotional Intelligence, or EQ, refers to one’s ability to effectively recognize, understand, manage, and use emotions to guide their own behavior and influence the behavior of others.  Unlike a person’s IQ, EQ can be developed and improved through training and practice. Companies that support EQ development among their staff tend to have a more positive and productive work environment due to enhanced team communication, reduced interpersonal conflicts, and increased collaboration among employees. EQ training enables leaders and teams to navigate challenges with empathy, adaptability, and resilience, leading to improved decision-making, employee engagement, and overall organizational success.

How can EQualifyed help my organization improve its leadership and team dynamics?

EQualifyed offers a variety of EQ-boosting training for leaders and all staff, team-building workshops, and leadership coaching - all designed to impart knowledge, develop skills, influence employee attitudes, and drive positive behavior change through the application of evidence-based research. EQualifyed recognizes that a company can’t manage what it can’t measure. To ensure company and individual success, EQualifyed partners with clients to assess individual and team goals BEFORE and AFTER a professional development initiative.

Pricing is dependent on client needs, but flat rate options are available.
